Greg Morena played competitive team sports while growing up in Santa Monica. He has been involved with community, kids, and various teams for most of his life. Greg was an all conference football and track runner in high school. He ran club track in San Diego and played for the San Diego State Aztecs football team before transferring to play football at Cal State University Northridge. Greg returned from college and coached high school football and track. While coaching track with local legends, Patrick Cady and Tanya Fischer (current Santa Monica High School track coach), they won two Bay League championships and sent several students to achieve state recognition. Focusing on their Santa Monica Pier family restaurant of 44 years, Greg stepped off the Santa Monica City Council in 2020. Many great players, including Drake Baldwin, Mookie Betts, Kobe Bryant, Tom Glavine, Tony Gwynn, Bo Jackson, Reggie Jackson, LeBron James, Michael Jordan, Aaron Judge, Clayton Kershaw, Joe Mauer, Jackie Robinson, Mike Trout, and Dave Winfield, played multiple sports in high school and/or college and/or professionally. The Zephyrs Baseball Club recruits and promotes multi-sport athletes, because these athletes make the best baseball players. Playing other sports perfectly complements the Zephyrs Baseball Club’s development of each player to his highest potential through good character and sportsmanship, peak strength and conditioning, battle-ready mental toughness, sharp instinct, endless skills development, team dynamics, and learning to recognize and win every game situation. The Zephyrs Baseball Club is local, affordable, and flexible, allowing each player to meet our requirement to play another sport during the baseball off-season. Baseball season and off-season During our baseball season (roughly May-July), Zephyrs players commit to baseball. We expect all players to be at practice and to practice to play to win. During the baseball off-season, we shift to a clinic-like approach, with flexible scheduling (including arriving late or leaving early) to permit our players to focus on the sport of the season. We want our teams to play 8 games per month and/or 2 tournaments per month.. Teams New players are recruited for teams at the 9-10, 11-12, and 13-14 year old levels. TEAM FEEs The Zephyrs Baseball Club collects a monthly fee of $300 for each month of participation, due on or before the 1st of each month. For tournaments and games, we utilize the pay-as-you-go system to cover entry and umpire fees.
